Terms & Conditions
The rules of the pad. Read them before you buy a ticket or line up to compete.
Important — not legal advice. These terms are a starting template based on Western Australian law and motorsport practice as at 2026 (Road Traffic Act 1974 (WA), Environmental Protection Act 1986 & Noise Regulations 1997, Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972, Working with Children (Screening) Act 2004, and Motorsport Australia / ANDRA / AASA / IHRA requirements). They are not a substitute for advice from a qualified Western Australian solicitor or your sanctioning body / insurer. Have these terms reviewed and tailored to your specific venue, permits and insurance before each event.
1. Acceptance of terms
By purchasing a ticket, entering as a driver, volunteering, sponsoring, or otherwise attending a Goldfields Burnouts & Sand Drags event ("the Event"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions, our Refund & Transfer Policy, our Privacy Policy, and any supplementary event regulations issued for the Event. If you do not agree, do not attend.
2. Lawful venue & permits
All burnouts and motorsport activities are conducted on private land or a closed, permitted venue — never on a public road. Doing a burnout on a public road or public place in Western Australia is an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1974 (WA) (wilfully causing excessive noise or smoke), carrying fines, demerit points and possible vehicle impoundment. The Event is run under the appropriate approvals, which may include:
- a permit from a recognised motorsport sanctioning body (e.g. Motorsport Australia, ANDRA, AASA or IHRA Australia);
- where the Event affects a road, a road closure / suspension of the Road Traffic Act approved by WA Police and the local authority (lodged at least four weeks prior); and
- any approvals, permits and licences required by the relevant local government, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), and other WA authorities.
The organiser may change the program, schedule or venue for safety, weather or regulatory reasons without notice.
3. Driver eligibility & licences
To compete you must, at all times while at the Event, hold and carry:
- a current Australian driver's licence (Probationary/Provisional licences are accepted as prior learning by some sanctioning bodies); or
- a current recognised motorsport licence appropriate to the discipline (e.g. ANDRA Burnout Licence / Day Licence, Motorsport Australia Speed licence, or IHRA Australia Burnout Licence).
Minimum age and junior provisions follow the relevant sanctioning body. Any driver under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian, who must complete a Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement of Risk, Waiver, Release and Indemnity in the presence of a registration official, and present photo identification. Siblings, friends or neighbours are not accepted as guardians.
4. Vehicle & safety requirements
Every competing vehicle must pass scrutineering before it is allowed on the pad or drag strip. Requirements include (as applicable to the class):
- roadworthy tyres — bald or unsafe tyres are not permitted;
- no convertible vehicles unless complying with the sanctioning body's cage/equipment rules;
- secure batteries, fuel caps and door locks; no loose wheel trims, hub caps or wheel weights;
- contained, leak-free fuel, cooling and driveline systems; mechanical fuel injection must have an in-cab shut-off;
- approved driver safety equipment — helmet to AS/NZS 1698 or equivalent, and (for modified/professional classes) fire-retardant suit, balaclava, gloves and boots to the relevant SFI/FIA standard;
- 100% vehicle scrutineering; the appointed scrutineer has final say. A vehicle with structural damage from a prior incident will not compete until repaired and signed off.
Drivers must follow all officials' instructions, stop immediately when flagged, remain seated and belted while the engine is running in gear, and keep burnouts within the designated pad/strip.
5. Alcohol, drugs & conduct
Zero tolerance. All drivers and crew are subject to breath testing. Any measurable alcohol reading above 0.000 will result in exclusion from the Event. Illicit drugs are prohibited. The Event is a family-friendly, BYO — strictly no glass — event, and attendees must drink responsibly. The organiser may eject anyone for intoxication, anti-social or dangerous behaviour, and may report offences to police.
6. Spectator safety & conduct
The pad and drag strip are hazardous. Spectators must:
- stay behind all barriers and inside designated spectator areas at all times;
- never enter the competition area, pit lane or recovery zone without authorisation;
- follow all marshal and official directions immediately;
- supervise children at all times; and
- not operate drones or aerial cameras without prior written approval.
The organiser reserves the right to refuse entry or eject any person who breaches these conditions.
7. Noise, environment & Aboriginal heritage
The Event is operated in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997. Where assigned noise levels cannot be met, the venue's approved Noise Management Plan (under Division 3 of the Regulations) applies. Attendees must not tamper with noise-control equipment.
Goldfields Burnouts respects Aboriginal heritage. Under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (WA) it is an offence to knowingly damage an Aboriginal site. The organiser checks the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Inquiry System (ACHIS) and consults appropriately before an Event; attendees must not disturb any cultural sites, artefacts or landforms.
8. Insurance & assumption of risk
The organiser maintains Public Liability insurance for the Event (and, where the Event is sanctioned, benefits from the sanctioning body's program to the extent it applies). This does not mean you are insured for your own loss. Specifically:
- the organiser's and sanctioning-body policies generally do not cover damage to your own vehicle, nor damage to another competitor's vehicle while both are competing;
- Personal Accident cover (where applicable) is typically limited and does not cover medical costs met by Medicare;
- volunteers engaged directly by the promoter (other than accredited officials) may not be covered by the sanctioning body's policy.
By participating you voluntarily assume all risks inherent in motorsport — including fire, collision, hearing damage, injury and death — and release and indemnify the organiser, landowners, sponsors, officials and volunteers to the maximum extent permitted by law. Drivers should hold their own suitable vehicle (competition) and personal accident insurance; see our Driver Insurance Guide.
9. Photography, media & privacy
By attending you consent to being photographed, filmed and recorded for event, promotional and broadcast purposes without compensation. Personal information collected (e.g. entry forms, contact details) is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.
10. Tickets, entries, refunds & cancellations
Tickets and entries are governed by our Refund & Transfer Policy. In short: tickets and entries are generally non-refundable but may be transferred; if the Event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser, a full refund or credit is offered. The organiser may cancel, postpone or shorten the Event for safety, weather, fire risk, regulatory action or other circumstances beyond its control (force majeure).
11. Code of conduct
All attendees must behave respectfully toward officials, volunteers, sponsors, other competitors and the public. The organiser may impose penalties, disqualify entrants, refuse entry or eject any person for breach of these Terms, the supplementary regulations, or any lawful direction.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the organiser excludes liability for any indirect or consequential loss, and limits liability for any breach to the extent required by the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) and the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms excludes any guarantee, right or remedy that cannot be lawfully excluded.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Western Australia.
